Pass Go! Gloucestershire College Makes Its Mark on Monopoly: Gloucester Edition
We don’t want to be at the centre of any fall-outs this holiday season, whether that’s arguing over who slipped an extra £10 from the banker or moved one space too far! But we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a little bit excited about being included on the brand-new Monopoly: Gloucester Edition this autumn.
Earlier this year it was announced that Gloucester is “Passing GO” for the holidays. At the time of the announcement, the local community was invited to make suggestions for spaces on the board and wording for the Community Chest and Chance cards. Whether you have your eyes on the Cathedral, sights set on the Docks or are eager to snap up a property featuring Gloucestershire College, this board celebrates our place as a staple in the local community.
The launch saw Mr Monopoly head west from his Mayfair HQ to star at the big bash, alongside all 30+ organisations that feature on the board as well as Town Crier Alan Myatt, and Mayor of Gloucester, Councillor Adrian Graham. The launch was held at Linc, the blood cancer charity based at Patch in The Forum. At the event the giant-sized board was unveiled, revealing for the first time the identities of the 30+ Gloucester places that feature in the game.
While we may have had a few different names over the years, for more than 100 years the College has been at the forefront of education in the local area, equipping generations of students with the skills they need to secure meaningful employment. Having our own signature place on the board is a fun and exciting way to celebrate our heritage and cement our place in Gloucester’s history.
It’s not just about family fun (or the occasional feud!). Monopoly can also offer some valuable learning opportunities. As well as being a great way to bring people together, the game helps players develop their basic maths skills through counting money, calculating change and adding up costs. It also introduces simple financial concepts, such as budgeting, saving, spending and managing money, while encouraging players to think strategically, make decisions and develop their negotiation skills. Who knew a family or friends game night could be so educational?
Monopoly: Gloucester Edition will be landing very soon, and to celebrate, we’re giving you the chance to win your very own board! Fancy getting your hands on one? It’s easy to enter: simply follow us on Instagram or Facebook, like our pinned Monopoly post and tag a friend in the comments by Friday 20 November 2026.
