Gloucestershire College Learners Explore Careers in Cybersecurity
The session, titled From Networks to Cyber Defence: Building the Foundation for IT & Cyber Security Careers, gave learners an insight into how networking knowledge can open doors to careers in IT infrastructure and cybersecurity.
Drawing on her professional experience in network and IT infrastructure at Teesside University, Osaosemwen shared her knowledge of enterprise networks, how they operate and why protecting them is so important for modern organisations.
Exploring future careers in IT and cybersecurity
With digital technology continuing to shape how organisations operate, understanding IT infrastructure and network security is an important foundation for anyone considering a career in the sector.
The session gave learners the opportunity to hear directly from an industry professional, ask questions and gain a better understanding of the different pathways available to them.
At Gloucestershire College, we recognise the value of connecting classroom learning with real industry experience. Opportunities like this help our learners develop their technical knowledge, build confidence and explore where their skills could take them.
Bringing industry experience into the classroom
Throughout the session, learners explored how networking and cybersecurity work together, with practical examples showing how the skills used to build and manage networks also play an important role in keeping them secure.
The lecture also introduced learners to the technical skills, professional certifications and development opportunities that can help them take their next steps towards a career in the industry.
A hands-on activity gave learners the opportunity to explore Cisco switch configuration, helping them connect the theory covered in their studies with practical networking skills used by IT professionals.
