The winners of the GloucestershireLive Apprenticeship Awards 2020 are soon to be announced during a virtual awards ceremony on Thursday 19th November 2020. Gloucestershire College is proud to share the achievements of our outstanding apprentices, with six finalists in the awards this year. We are delighted to shine a spotlight on our finalists to celebrate their incredible achievements and inspire others to pursue an apprenticeship. Iress is a global technology company providing software to the financial services industry. The software solutions developed by Iress are used by more than 9,000 businesses and 500,000 users globally. Iress is a finalist for ‘Employer of the Year’ in the 2020 GloucestershireLive Virtual Apprenticeship awards, highlighting their dedication and commitment to apprenticeships.

Back local talent: How your business can help support the next generation

There is growing evidence to suggest young people have been hit the hardest by the economic fallout from Covid-19. In response to this Gloucestershire College has launched a ‘Back Local Talent’ campaign, asking businesses to consider how they can help. The College has been inundated with young people looking for apprenticeship and career opportunities with local businesses. Here we summarise the three ways your business can get involved.

Apprenticeship case study: Sydney Davies, Junior Stylist at Ashley Paul Hairdressing

Congratulations to Sydney Davies for passing her Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship with Ashley Paul Hairdressing in Gloucester. Sydney started her apprenticeship with Gloucestershire College in September 2017 and was ready to complete her End Point Assessment when lockdown suddenly started, forcing the salon to temporarily close. On return to the salon in July, Sydney worked incredibly hard to get ready for her assessment in September, which she successful passed - even whilst wearing full PPE on one of the hottest days of the year! Apprenticeship case study: Poppy Sharam, Apprentice at Laura Leigh Hair & Beauty

We would like to congratulate Poppy Sharam, Junior Stylist and Apprentice at Laura Leigh Hair & Beauty, who has been awarded a Distinction for her Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship End Point Assessment. Only around 2% of apprentices in the country have gained a distinction for their End Point Assessment so this is an incredible achievement! Find out more here.
