Taught by industry specialists, this course equips you with skills to work on things like metal studwork, masonry walls, and working with plasterboard. You’ll complete the course ready to pick up the tools and start a rewarding career.
What you will learn
You’ll gain practical experience working with dry lining systems and learn about the construction industry.
You’ll learn about things like:
- Installing metal studwork, including wall and ceiling systems
- Lining masonry walls, piers, and columns
- Cutting and fixing a arrange of plasterboard
- Finishing plasterboard surfaces
This qualification includes 7 mandatory units, covering:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
- Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
- Understanding construction technology
- Apply finishing plasters to plasterboard backgrounds
- Finish dry lining joints
- Install dry lining and encasements
- Install dry lining partition and metal firring ceiling systems
Alongside practical training, modern theory delivery includes interactive workshop sessions and directed study assignments, helping you deepen your industry knowledge.

Assessment
Your progress will be continuously assessed through a combination of practical assignments, tutor observations, and written exams.
To successfully complete the course, you must pass all mandatory units and demonstrate competency in practical dry lining techniques.
Anything else?
You will be required to wear steel toe capped boots and appropriate clothing for practical sessions.
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
We also have student development sessions which will support you towards your future career plans. You will have time for CPD (Continuous Professional Development), and you will be expected to complete at least one week’s work experience. Our Employability Team will support you to find a placement.
