DBS Information

To undertake work experience in a health and social care or early years related settings, you must complete an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. 

Gloucestershire College will provide you with the DBS application process once you have started your course.

Below is guidance to help you prepare for the Enhanced DBS application process, which will begin once you are enrolled in September.

After you have started your course and brought in your three pieces of required identification, these will be checked by the college. You will then receive an email from e Safeguarding, containing your login details to complete the online DBS application.

What documents do I need to provide to complete my DBS application?

To successfully complete an Enhanced DBS application, you will need to provide three documents from the approved lists (linked below) to verify your identity. Requirements may vary if you are not a UK national.

  • One document from Group 1
  • Two additional documents from Group 1, Group 2a, or Group 2b
  • One document must show your date of birth
  • One document must show your current address


In addition to the documents above, you must provide full address details for all places you have lived over the last five years, including the dates you lived at each address.

Please note: If you do not have your original birth certificate (issued within 12 months of birth), you may need to apply for a passport or driving licence before you can complete your DBS application.

Important information

  • Do not send copies of your documents or an existing DBS certificate by email.
  • All evidence must be brought in person once you start your course in September.
  • If you already have a DBS certificate, you may still be required to complete a new DBS through the college to ensure it meets the specific requirements of the qualification.
