Gloucestershire College reinforces its message to local trade employers: “Now is a perfect time to recruit an apprentice.”

Employer Training and Apprenticeships Latest News

Gloucestershire’s Apprenticeship Training Provider of the Year 2020 and 2021 has been partnering with construction and trade employers in the county for the last 30 years. Since starting its first apprenticeship programmes, GC has worked with hundreds of local trade companies, including Bloor Homes, Elijah Willow Construction, EG Carter, Mike Etheridge, and others.

This academic year, GC has gone from strength to strength, from once again becoming the Gloucestershire Apprenticeship Training Provider of the Year 2021, to receiving the ROATP re-accreditation in 2022 – an important step introduced by the government to drive up the quality of apprenticeship provision. As the result of the re-accreditation, the College will continue to be eligible to receive government funding to train apprentices.

Julie Tegg, Director of Employer Training & Apprenticeships commented:

“It’s been a good year for Employer Training & Apprenticeships at the College. My advice to local trade companies: get in touch now to discuss how you can benefit from our construction and building services apprenticeships!

“It is the time of the year, when we prepare for September start dates. We have been getting a large volume of enquiries about apprenticeship opportunities, and construction and building services training is always in high demand. We have no doubt, that our apprentices supported by our employer-partners are and will be paving the way for the future of the construction industry in the county and beyond.”

Today, GC’s Construction & Building services apprentices make over 40% of the total number of all our apprentices and are training towards becoming bricklayers, carpenters, joiners, plumbers, electricians, builders and more - the College takes pride in providing the right talent and training for local companies. Suitable for anyone who is interested, construction and building services apprenticeships can kick-start a long and a successful career.

“In 2021 we have had a number of Bricklaying and Carpentry apprentices qualify; four bricklayers who are now self-employed working on Bloor Homes sites in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, and three carpenters who achieved their Level 2, two of which have now progressed on to the Level 3 programme.” – said David Auker-Howlett, Apprentice Master at Bloor Homes

With secured government funding, the College will continue raising the profile of apprenticeships in the county, strengthening its portfolio and building even closer ties with Gloucestershire business community.

GC’s Construction and Building services apprentices will continue to benefit from mentorship by seasoned Assessor Trainers, outstanding trade facilities and real-life industry experience at their employers’ – all designed to help them to reach their full potential, while bringing positive change to local economy.
