Ideal if: you want a career in this ever developing sector, important industry working with young children or if you want to progress on to university or enter employment.

You’ll learn: how to observe children, provide and review care needs, support play and educational opportunities which will enable children to develop through the use of age appropriate activities, checking children’s learning and development, health, wellbeing and safety, legislation, safeguarding, curriculum frameworks and professional practice and development.

This course prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

 

You will study:

 

  • How to plan and provide effective education that will enable children to progress and prepare for school
  • Understand Child development from 0-19yrs.
  • Assess children’s learning and development.
  • Health, well-being and safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Support children with additional needs (SEND)
  • Working in partnership with parents, colleagues and other professionals
  • Own Role, Professional development

 

T Level Technical Qualification in Education and Childcare is a nationally recognised qualification which will enable learners to progress into employment with children.

The course is two years in length and you will be required to attend 2 different placement settings for a maximum of 750 hours during this period. There is a dedicated work placement officer to help with this if required.

You will need to complete and pay for a DBS check in order to attend the placement requirements of this course and sign up for the update service.

How will I be assessed?

Year 1

  • 2 written exams
  • Employer Based Project (to be completed in college)

 

Year 2

  • Occupational Specialism Component
  • Synoptic Assignment

 

The industry placement will be used for the assessment of skills for all occupational specialism, early years students will be required to demonstrate specific skills in the placement, which will be observed by as assessor and then moderated. Tasks will be observed during the students time working in the industry, this is because the skills and knowledge being assessed cannot be validly assed in any other context. For example, students are being assessed on their ability to work with nursery groups or classes of children and demonstrate their skills in doing this.

  • Typical Entry Criteria

    ·         Five GCSE subjects at Grade 4 and above including:

    o    GCSE English Language or Literature at Grade 4 and above or GCSE Maths at Grade 4 and above
    o    Four other GCSE subjects at Grade 4 and above

     

    Age Criteria: Under 19

    Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.

    Applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

  • The general progression route for our Education and Childcare (Level 3) T Level programme is:

    Higher Education or Apprenticeship or employment in industry.
