The Manufacturing Engineer Degree Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and has been developed in collaboration with industry to meet the evolving needs of the engineering workforce.
It provides a valuable opportunity to attract and develop high-calibre talent for your organisation, while also enabling existing employees to advance their engineering careers through a university-level qualification.
- Levy-paying employers: Use your Growth & Skills Levy to fund training and assessment costs.
- Non-levy paying employers: Training & assessment is fully funded for apprentices under the age of 25. Additional incentives are available to SMEs for recruiting eligible apprentices.
Enrolment is open all year round with new cohorts starting every September.

The Manufacturing Engineer Degree (Level 6) apprenticeship combines academic learning with real-world application, giving learners a solid grounding in central engineering concepts and the skills to apply them directly into the workplace.
Alongside technical knowledge, apprentices will build valuable professional capabilities such as creative problem-solving, manufacturing management, computer-aided design (CAD), modelling, simulation, teamwork, and innovation.
After completing the apprenticeship, learners will be awarded a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
How is the programme delivered?
The programme is delivered as a part-time apprenticeship over 4 years, with in-college training as follows:
Year 1: 2 days/week at college
Year 2: 1 day/week at college
Year 3 and 4: 1 day/week at UWE Bristol

Support & Funding for Employers
The UK government provides generous funding for apprenticeship programmes. Here’s how it can work for you:
Levy-paying employers (£3m+ wage bill)
- Use your Growth & Skills Levy to fund training & assessment costs. The levy re-sets every 12 months, so use it or lose it.
Non-levy paying employers
- Fully-funded training & assessment for apprentices under the age of 25 recruited by SMEs
- 95%- funded for apprentices 25+
- Access funded training through local levy transfer partnerships
Additional incentives (from August 2026)
- £2,000 for each new 16-24 apprentices taken on by an SME
- £3,000 for each new apprentice aged 18-24 on Universal Credit or out of work for 6 months
Plus, no National Insurance contributions for apprentices under 25 earning less than £967/week
