The benefits of apprenticeships

  • Apprenticeships are a low-cost way to bring new talent into your organisation; recruitment is free and the training is funded either by your levy, or you pay just 5% of the bill (the government funds the rest)
  • What apprentices learn will be tailored to your business – the programmes you use and the challenges you face
  • It will change your business for the better – 78% of employers report improved productivity after recruiting an apprentice

Apprenticeship Funding

While employers will need to cover apprentice's salary (see here for minimum wage guidance) and National Insurance contributions (although there are exceptions), most training costs are funded by the government.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • £1,000 incentive for employers hiring an apprentice aged 18 or under (or 24 or under if a care leaver or with an EHC plan)

  • Fully funded for non-levy employers with apprentices aged between 16 and 21

  • 95% of training costs funded for non-levy employers with apprentices aged 22 and over

  • Covered by your levy if you’re a levy-paying employer

  • No National Insurance contributions for apprentices under 25 earning less than £967 per week

  • Recruitment is free if done via the government apprenticeship service or Gloucestershire College. We can also help you screen and shortlist candidates at no cost

You can contact our team for guidance and advice about the funding available for your organisation.
