Timetable FAQs
-
Please make sure you arrive 15 minutes before – you can find campus location information here.
Don’t worry if you don’t know which room to go to, there will be instructions and plenty of staff about to help direct you to your classroom.
We recommend bringing a notebook and pens with you on your first day unless you have been asked to bring anything else with you. If your course has a required kit or uniform, don’t worry if you do not have it during the first week!
At college we don’t have a set uniform, we recommend you wear something comfortable.
Your day will also include meeting your tutors, classmates, your student mentor and induction activities.
-
Please make sure you have uploaded a photo for your ID Badge on the enrolment portal, this will help us get your badge to you when you start quicker! If you have not uploaded a photo you can log back in here to upload one under where it says My GC ID Badge on your My Documents page.
Printed badges will be given to your tutors to give out, if you do not have one, we do have badge
The importance of ID badges
It is essential that all learners bring and wear their ID badge each day. These must always be on display when they are on site; worn on the given blue lanyard around their neck, clearly visible.
The badges are an important aspect of safeguarding as they allow us all to identify those who have permission to be on site. The badge is also required for accessing the building and exams.
Learners will be challenged if they are not wearing ID or not wearing them correctly– those who continue to not bring or wear their ID may be asked to return home to collect their ID or purchase a new one from the student hub.
-
You would have been sent your login details alongside your timetable, the first time you login will need to be at college.
If you need support with logging into your account, teams or student email, you can visit the library who are available on all campuses.
-
For learners aged 16-18, if you have not achieved a Grade 4 in Maths and English this will be on your timetable, from your first full week at college unless communicated otherwise.
-
For some courses there will also be a timetabled Student Development Tutorial session, these are compulsory sessions to help learners develop wider personal skills and employability skills associated with their programme of study and prepare them for their next steps.
All learners will be expected to develop their literacy and numeracy skills and will be expected to complete online English and maths activities to support this development. We know how important these skills are to employers.
On some timetables, there are also slots timetabled entitled ‘Next Steps online’.
These 2.5 hours (plus further homework hours) must be used to complete the various tasks/ work set by the course team (course tasks/assignments and student development/next steps online tasks). These sessions can be completed at home at the suggested time (or at another convenient time) or in the library. All learners have times in the week without timetabled sessions where they are expected to complete tasks and assignments set by the teaching teams.
Continued Professional Development (CPD), work placements/experience and block placement weeks
CPD/work related activity days: You may find days identified as CPD (continued professional development) or work-related activity or work experience on the timetable. These are days set aside for work experience and/or volunteering activities to build up the expected 100 hours of CPD over the year. These will be discussed through the induction period, so learners do not need to attend college on these days until they have finalised their work experience activities with the tutor.
Work placements: some courses have work placements as a central part of the programme of study (e.g. T levels, Health and Social Care and Early Years). The learners will have the details of these placements and expectations.
Block Placement weeks: All courses will have a mandatory block placement week timetabled at some point in the year. Learners will be encouraged and supported to engage in work experience in the week identified.
We encourage the learners to seek out their own work experience opportunities for the CPD and block weeks, but we can provide support and guidance to help them.
There is a team dedicated to supporting those who are finding it difficult to source a placement: they can be contacted via employability@gloscol.ac.uk
