Ofsted Inspection: where all learners thrive in a welcoming, respectful and friendly culture
Gloucestershire College Commended in First Wave of Inspections Under New Ofsted Framework.
Gloucestershire College is celebrating a highly positive Ofsted report following its recent inspection, becoming one of the first three further education colleges assessed under the new inspection framework. Published in February, the report confirms that the College has consistently met the “high bar” of the expected standard across all fifteen graded judgements—an achievement the team is exceptionally proud of.
The Ofsted report highlights how young learners at Gloucestershire College grow in confidence as they apply new knowledge and skills throughout their studies. Inspectors noted that students become increasingly independent, supported by engaging lessons and meaningful practical experiences. Learners were seen to behave well, demonstrate respect, and show positive attitudes to their education.
Learners benefit from professional classrooms and workshops equipped with industry-standard tools and technologies, preparing them effectively for further study or employment.
For adult learners, Gloucestershire College provides a welcoming and respectful environment where individuals can rediscover their potential. Experienced and qualified teachers deliver engaging, inclusive and supportive learning experiences that enable adults to take positive steps toward their future goals.
Apprentices also thrive at the College, developing substantial theoretical knowledge and practical skills that enable them to excel in their roles. Inspectors praised assessors and teachers for their strong subject expertise, which results in purposeful teaching aligned closely to the needs of apprentices and their employers.
The report acknowledges significant improvements in support for learners with high needs. Inspectors found that learners with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported, with tailored assistance that enables full participation and strong progress. Dedicated programmes further help these learners build independence and social skills.
The inspection team also recognised the College’s commitment to removing barriers for disadvantaged learners. This sustained effort ensures all learners—regardless of background or circumstance—can access education, succeed, and thrive.
Throughout their time at Gloucestershire College, learners develop confidence and resilience, helping them secure sustainable careers and acquire in-demand technical skills.
Speaking on behalf of the leadership team, Matthew Burgess, Principal and Chief Executive, commented:
“We are so pleased with the Ofsted report as it recognises the ongoing hard work of the staff and the progress made by our learners. Everyone works so hard to support all our learners to develop their confidence and resilience in readiness to be successful in their next steps.”
