6 Things to Do Before You Attend Apprenticeship Open Evening

Attending our Apprenticeship Open Evening is an exciting step towards your future. Whether you're leaving school, considering university-level study, or looking to upskill through an apprenticeship, there's something for you.

But how can you make sure you get the most out of the event?

From preparing questions to meeting employers and hearing from current apprentices, a little preparation can go a long way. Here are 6 things you should do before and during the evening to make it a success.

1. Get Prepared

To make the most of the evening, come with an open mind and an idea of the industries or career paths that interest you.

We offer apprenticeships across a wide range of sectors so there's something for everyone, including:

  • Business and Professional Services

  • IT and Cyber

  • Hairdressing

  • Catering and Hospitality

  • Dental Nursing

  • Early Years and Education

  • Engineering

  • Construction and Trade Industries

  • Motor Vehicle

Consider what excites you and what you’d like to learn more about. This will help you focus your conversations with employers and our Apprenticeship Team.

2. Don’t Forget to Ask the Important Questions

This is your opportunity to get real answers.

Speak to employers about:

  • What they look for in an apprentice

  • What a typical day looks like

  • Opportunities for progression

  • What happens after completing the apprenticeship

Our Apprenticeship Team will also be on hand to explain:

  • How apprenticeships work

  • Entry requirements

  • The application process

  • How to find an employer

No question is too small. This event is all about helping you feel confident and informed to make the decision right for you.

2. Don’t Forget to Ask the Important Questions

3. Attend a Welcome Talk

Start your evening with our Welcome Talk, delivered by our Apprenticeships Team.

You’ll learn:

  • How apprenticeships work

  • How you’ll split your time between work and training

  • The benefits of earning while you learn

  • How apprenticeships can lead to long-term careers

It’s the perfect introduction to everything you need to know.

4. Bring Company

Big decisions are easier when you have support. Bring a parent, guardian or friend along with you.

They can help you think of questions, offer advice, and share in the experience. Apprenticeships are an exciting step, and it’s helpful to have someone there to discuss your options with.

5. Attend Our Q&A Panel

One of the highlights of the evening is our Apprentice Q&A Panel.

Hear directly from current and past apprentices about:

  • Why they chose an apprenticeship

  • What their day-to-day role involves

  • The projects they’ve worked on

  • How their apprenticeship has shaped their career

This is your chance to get real insight into what life is like as an apprentice and ask honest questions in a relaxed setting.

5. Attend Our Q&A Panel

6. Write Down What You’ve Learned

You’ll gather lots of information throughout the evening, from different industries, employers and apprenticeship levels.

Make notes on:

  • The employers you spoke to

  • Apprenticeships that interested you

  • The application process

  • Key advice you were given

This will help you reflect afterwards and make a confident decision about your next steps.
