Student Spotlight: Hailie’s Journey in Construction

Student Spotlight: Hailie’s Journey in Construction
Student Spotlight: Hailie’s Journey in Construction

Since the start of the academic year, Hailie Miller, one of our Multi Skills students, has demonstrated exceptional drive and a genuine passion for construction and plastering. She has shown great dedication and resilience, standing out as the only female student in her group, and continues to pursue her ambition to progress, learn new skills, and develop her knowledge in the STEM field.

Hailie has been open and enthusiastic about her vision for the future. Her goal is to offer a specialised service that combines plastering, painting, decorating, and high-end wall art, allowing her to showcase both her technical ability and artistic flair.

Her ambition continued to shine when she approached our Multi Skills Associate Lecturer, Michael Wasley, with an idea to complete the department’s ‘exemplar bay’ and document the process through video and a time-lapse for her social media platforms. Hailie filmed her first session, confidently demonstrating her plastering skills, showcasing her work, and putting herself forward for potential employment. Her content quickly gained attention and caught the eye of local company Tack It & Dab It.

The company expressed interest and offered Hailie the opportunity to work with them during her continuous professional development, providing valuable hands-on experience with the potential for progression after completing her course.

Hailie has since completed her first full day with the company and loved every minute. She is already proudly wearing their logo and plans to continue documenting her work and progress online.

Hailie has been an inspiration not only to the construction department but also to young women considering a career in construction. She has proven that with vision, self-belief, and a positive attitude, our students can achieve great things. To support her journey, Hailie has been awarded a Dewalt drill and plastering trowel to help set her up for success.

We are excited to see Hailie continue her journey in construction and look forward to following her progress as her career develops.
