Gloucestershire College is delighted to announce that there are 85 vacancies available to motivated young people across Gloucestershire, through the government’s Kickstart Scheme. The new incentive, launched in October, was created to support 16 to 24-year-olds in receipt of Universal Credit, to reduce the risk of them becoming long-term unemployed. It offers a six-month paid job with a local employer, funded by the government.

We're delighted to announce that there are 85 vacancies available to motivated young people across Gloucestershire, through the government’s Kickstart Scheme.

The new incentive, launched in October, was created to support 16 to 24-year-olds in receipt of Universal Credit, to reduce the risk of them becoming long-term unemployed. It offers a six-month paid job with a local employer, funded by the government.

An avid supporter of county businesses, we became an intermediary for local employers wanting to get involved in the scheme. So far, we've helped 40 businesses through the application process and will provide training and support to the successful candidates during their placements and beyond.

The 85 paid placements range from hands-on, hospitality and retail roles such as Mechanical Fitter, Trainee Lawncare Operative, Maintenance Technician, Deputy Manager and Trainee Chef to social media, sales and marketing assistants, business and finance administrators, and creative roles such as Junior Digital Designer, Web Designer Publisher and Junior 3D Artist.

County employers, big and small, hiring for these roles include: Adey, Absolute Creative Marketing, Arriva Group, Caple Banks, Cotswold Motors, Donaldson and Newman, Ethical Addictions, Gloucester Corporate Services, Green Fuels Research, Griffiths Marshall, Iron Mills, Keyway, Mosaique Creative and Marketing, MRCB Property Solutions, Neon Play, SoundHouseMusic, Tayntons, Thomas & Thomas Property, The Friendship Café, The Speech House Hotel and Gloucestershire College itself.

Young people interested in applying for a role should email Rob Watkins, Learner Recruitment Coordinator: robert.watkins@gloscol.ac.uk

Rob can contact their DWP work coach on their behalf to arrange an interview with the respective employer, and support them through the process.

Amie Nutbrown, Head of Commercial at Gloucestershire College, said: “We’re delighted to help back local talent and shape the skills and futures of young people across Gloucestershire by supporting employers and employees through the Kickstart Scheme. To be able to offer 85 young people paid work placements with such a diverse range of employers really is amazing. Our unique training package will see them gain personal, social, work and vocational skills, which will have a lasting, meaningful impact on each young person’s future.

“We’re happy to support more local employers through the process, to help develop their businesses with new talent. Please get in touch if you’re interested.”

Kickstart government funding covers 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week and associated employer National Insurance contributions. Plus, each business will receive funding towards any start-up costs such as uniform, equipment and training.

On completion of each placement, we can provide employers and their Kickstart employees with further support and training solutions such as traineeships, apprenticeships and professional courses to help them into full-time, permanent employment.

We're proud to be the official Kickstart partner of Circle2Success, which has helped its members make the most of the scheme.
