Ella Russell, Business Administration Apprentice at Tewkesbury School

Tell us how does it feel to be a finalist in the GloucestershireLive Apprenticeship Awards?

I am very proud to be a finalist for Gloucestershire's apprentice of the year awards and so grateful to have been nominated. My Business Administration apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to experience a real business environment and all that it entails, along with learning many new skills and gaining a rewarding qualification at the end of the apprenticeship. I am so excited to celebrate the event virtually on Thursday 19 November.

What made you decide to apply for the GloucestershireLive Apprenticeship Awards?

I was nominated for this award by my line manager, Julia. By applying for this award, we realised just how far my apprenticeship journey has taken me with all the new skills learnt and the challenges I’ve overcome.

What impact do you think being a finalist might have on your future career?

During this apprenticeship I have learnt many transferable skills.  Being an apprentice is not just about getting a qualification but is about learning new skills I need to advance in my career.  Being a finalist shows commitment, dedication and that I want to learn, progress and succeed.

Tell us how you would feel if you won ‘Gloucestershire’s Apprentice of the Year 2020’?

If I won the Apprentice of the Year, firstly I hope that it would inspire our students at Tewkesbury School to seriously consider applying for an apprenticeship. Winning would be recognition for all my hard work over the last year and for the time invested in me by Gloucestershire College and my employer. I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship and am very proud to work for Tewkesbury School. I would feel incredibly honoured to win this for myself and for the school.

Dianne Baker, Trainer & Assessor at Gloucestershire College is working closely with Ella to complete her apprenticeship.

Dianne commented: “I would like to say how fantastic it is to work with someone who is so enthusiastic and driven to take on new learning and new challenges. Ella has worked hard to develop herself within her role and within her team at work and has become an invaluable team member at Tewkesbury School. Ella approaches her learning with a practical and pragmatic attitude – ensuring that she relates the learning back to her job role and to the projects she has taken on to improve administrative support within the organization. She’s also really good fun and makes my job easy with her positivity and ability to build working relationships.”
