This occupation is found in primary, secondary, special schools, alternative provision and further education institutions such as sixth forms and colleges. Teaching Assistants work across all ages, supporting all learners.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to support the class teacher to enhance learners` progress and development either in groups or individually. Teaching Assistants ensure that learners understand their work, know their learning objectives and display positive learning behaviours in order to make progress. They deliver individual and small group teaching and apply a range of strategies to support learners of different abilities under the professional direction and supervision of a qualified teacher. Teaching Assistants may support learners with special educational needs and disabilities with social, emotional and mental health vulnerabilities.
Delivery model and duration:
Training is delivered in the workplace
Duration: 18 months including end point Assessment based on 52 week year or pro rata for term time only working. Length of programme extended for those working less than 30 hrs a week.

End Point Assessment
The End Point Assessment will test the entire Standard, and be undertaken as follows:
• Practical Observation - 120 minutes. Completed in the apprentice`s workplace
• Question & Answer Session - 15 minutes. Completed following the practical observation
• Professional Discussion - 90 minutes. Supported by a portfolio of evidence completed during the on-programme learning

Safeguarding - Implement safeguarding policies and safe practice, including online safety, in line with legislation, policies, and procedures including maintaining confidentiality.
Communication - Work in partnership and liaise with other professionals and parent/carers to support all learners` learning.
Professional development - Reflect on their own practice and identify professional development opportunities with the support of colleagues.
Pupil wellbeing - Understand the specific needs of learners and use strategies to support all learners to achieve their learning goals.
Child development - Promote engagement and teach learning behaviours to support all learners to achieve their learning goals.
Relationships & role modeling - Establish positive relationships with learners and promote positive behaviours, consistently applying the school`s behaviour policy.
Pastoral - Support the social, emotional, mental health, wellbeing and personal care of all learners in line with organisational policy and procedures.
Delivery - Deliver individual and small group teaching within clearly defined/planned parameters in partnership with the teacher and other professionals.
Assessment and planning - Contribute to assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of learners outcomes and participation as agreed with the teacher.
Curriculum - Support the development of a stimulating and safe learning environment by contributing the selection and preparation of teaching resources that meet the diverse needs and interests of learners. Support or lead enrichment activities for example visits, out of school activities and in school clubs

Use specific feedback to help pupils make progress. Apply good subject knowledge to support accurate assessment. Communication and team work - Works closely with teachers to ensure own contribution aligns with the teaching. Build appropriate relationships with colleagues, pupils,parents, adults and stakeholders. Undertake safeguarding training every 3 years. |
