You’ll learn: The course allows you to specialise in the basic knowledge and skills to progress on to higher level studies in Hair and/or Beauty.

Expect: to work on your maths and English functional skills, whilst developing your academic and vocational skills including washing, drying and plaiting hair, and basic nail and make up skills.

You’ll love: work-related activities where you will engage with employers and the local community.
For many reasons, you may not have got the qualifications you wanted at school, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on coming to college. So, if you’re not sure on your next steps, but know you want to improve your prospects, take your first steps into further education and keep your options open.

Our First Steps courses offer you flexibility and freedom while introducing you to further study and the world of work. You’ll get plenty of opportunities through work experience to gain the skills that employers are looking for, whilst in college you’ll also learn about your chosen industry and the next steps needed to progress further at GC.

Develop your confidence, English and maths skills, and you’ll have the chance to move on to the next level of study. You’ll learn either GCSE or functional skills qualifications in English and maths depending on your prior grades, plus additional qualifications to help develop your wider skills. You will also have sessions in your chosen vocational subject.
