Ideal if: you would like an introduction to the basics of working in the sports industry, and want to develop the skills needed to progress to a Level 2 qualification.
You’ll learn: how to develop training programmes, teamwork, map reading and navigation, career planning and employability skills.

This course gives you the opportunity to learn about the basics of working in the sports industry.
You will develop a range of skills which can include:
Prepare yourself for an active career in a range of sectors including sport leadership, leisure and recreation and the fitness industry by enrolling yourself onto the Level 1 Sport and Public Service course. This course will put your fitness levels to the test, and at the same time you’ll learn all about physical fitness, team sports, safety factors relating to exercise, sports leadership and teamwork.
This is a great introductory course that will give you plenty of options and allow you to pursue your dream career.
As part of your studies, you’ll get the chance to improve on your English and maths skills that help you succeed in education, employment, lifelong learning and personal development. You will also have a Professional Development Coach that will help you improve your employability skills.
When you are required to undertake sporting activities, you’ll need to wear the correct sports kit and footwear. During the year, the tutors will organise trips and activities that are relevant to your course. There is a charge for these trips and activities and you will be expected to pay when you enrol for the course. Full details can be given by the tutor.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

Upon completion, you may move on to the Level 2 course in sport, public service, outdoor activities or a relevant apprenticeship.

Uniformed Public Services
GC offers a wide range of real emergency service and armed forces experiences as part of the uniformed public services course. This has led to many former students going on to join the emergency services (Police, Fire and Ambulance Service) and the armed forces (Army, RAF or the Royal Navy) upon successful completion of their course.
