What you’ll learn
In the first year, you'll gain essential computing skills and learn about software with a foundational year in Advanced Computing. In your second year, you’ll specialise in Software Engineering & Web App Development with a range of specialist topics.
You’ll get a comprehensive knowledge of software engineering and web app development, mastering industry-standard programming languages such as Microsoft C# and .Net.
You’ll learn how to build applications that work seamlessly across popular operating systems, gaining hands-on experience with real-life IT projects using the latest technology. You’ll also learn about the role of software developers, how to assess user needs and how to write effective program code.
With opportunities to work on live projects and collaborate with industry professionals, you’ll be well-prepared for a career as a programmer, software developer, or app developer. Whether you’re aiming for higher education or employment, you’ll be prepared with the knowledge and skills to succeed in your next steps.

Assessment
Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through core mandatory examinations and assignments. The assignments will be industry-related, with some involving practical tasks that you will be required to evaluate through written reflection.
Anything else?
In addition to acquiring essential digital knowledge and skills, you’ll also develop transferable soft skills and critical work competencies that will prepare you for your next steps in the digital sector. You’ll take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.
All learners will work towards GCSE maths or maths in context (AS level Core maths) as part of their overall programme of study.
