Are you passionate about games, media, and technology? This course is where creativity meets technical expertise. Perfect for those who want to work in the UK’s growing digital games industry, this course covers everything from design and programming to development and testing. You'll gain hands-on experience with the latest industry-standard tools, preparing you for a successful career in video game creation or further study in higher education.

What you’ll learn

This course gives you a comprehensive knowledge of the art and science of video game creation. You’ll master key software used to design and create next-gen video games, through using Unreal Engine 4, Unity 3D, Blender 3D, and Photoshop. You’ll use them to develop skills in software programming, 3D modelling, 2D concept art, animation, story and script writing, sound design, and special effects.

Beyond technical skills, you’ll also develop essential professional skills, like effective communication, research and presentation skills, teamwork, project management, and understanding market trends in the gaming industry.

Our strong industry links mean your learning is relevant and up to date. You’ll work on real-world creative projects, often with feedback from industry experts to enhance your learning. With access to a well-equipped lab and expert staff, you’ll design and develop your own game projects from scratch, building a portfolio that will showcase your work when you apply for higher level courses or employment.

Highlights

You can look forward to:

  • Trips to support the sector such as EGX and Warhammer Exhibition Centre
  • Game jam competitions
  • Industry specific guest speakers

Assessment

Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through two project assignments. The assignments will be industry-related, with the opportunity to create your own game considering the gaming industry and its audience that you will be required to evaluate through written reflection.

There is a lot of freedom in computing. I'm enjoying the computer hardware and software programming side of the course as well as cryptography and cryptanalysis. We just recently went on a trip to The National Museum of Computing which was great.
