Ready to explore the world of IT and transform your tech skills into solutions? This course is perfect for those who want to develop essential skills in the ever-evolving industry. You’ll cover everything from computer systems and networks to digital graphics and web development, to gain a strong foundation in computing. With a focus on practical work and industry connections, you’ll gain the experience and knowledge needed to progress in the field of IT.

 

What you’ll learn 

This course gives you a comprehensive introduction to the IT and computing industry, equipping you with the skills needed to excel in various technical roles.

You’ll explore key topics such as computer systems and networks, digital graphics and animation, web development, and technology systems. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, you’ll take part in practical projects that mirror real-world scenarios and build a solid understanding of computing principles.

Alongside practical work you’ll engage in background research to deepen your knowledge and prepare for assignments. You’ll also have lots of support from our expert lecturers, and valuable insights from guest speakers from across the county.

This course gives you a solid foundation for work or further study in computing, especially if you’re interested in technical IT and are aiming for higher level courses.

Assessment  

Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through a mix of assignments and online exams. These assignments will be industry-related, with some involving practical tasks that you will be required to evaluate through written reflection.

 

Anything else?  

In addition to acquiring essential digital knowledge and skills, you’ll also develop transferable soft skills and critical work competencies that will prepare you for your next steps in the digital sector. You’ll take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.

At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.

  • Typical Entry Criteria

    • Three GCSE subjects at Grade 3 and above:

      Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.

      For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

      All queries regarding course entry criteria including the equivalency of qualifications and exceptional extenuating circumstances should be directed by email to the Admissions Department through applications@gloscol.ac.uk.

  • Upon completion, you may be able to move on to a Level 3 Diploma in a computing specialism. Alternatively, you may be able to move on to an apprenticeship or employment.
