Course Overview

Part Time
Certificate

Expand your Excel expertise with this practical half-day evening workshop, designed for professionals who want to build confidence using formulas and functions in the workplace. Delivered outside of standard working hours, it's an ideal way to refresh your skills around your existing work commitments.

Whether you're creating reports, analysing data or automating everyday tasks, this hands-on workshop will help you unlock the full potential of Excel. You'll learn how to create and use essential formulas and statistical functions, including SUM, AVERAGE and COUNT, before progressing to more advanced tools such as the IF function and percentage calculations.

The session also covers practical techniques, including using the fill handle, understanding absolute and relative cell references, and troubleshooting common issues such as circular references. By the end of the workshop, you'll have the skills and confidence to create more accurate, efficient spreadsheets and save time in your day-to-day work.

A basic understanding of Excel is recommended to get the most from this workshop.

  • This course is designed for adults aged 19 and over (as of 31 August in the academic year you are applying for) who have a basic understanding of Excel and are looking to develop their skills, refresh their existing knowledge or enhance their professional expertise.

In some circumstances, you may be eligible to study this course free of charge.

  • Your trainer will be able to advise on any further training opportunities but you may like to consider one of our other Excel workshops.

My interest in cyber was sparked when I went on a CyberFirst Advanced residential course which I loved, so thought why not pursue cyber security as a career choice! If you have an interest in IT and problem solving, then definitely consider studying cyber.

There is a lot of freedom in computing. I'm enjoying the computer hardware and software programming side of the course as well as cryptography and cryptanalysis. We just recently went on a trip to The National Museum of Computing which was great.

I feel like if you’re a student who feels ready to work, or someone who wants to learn more than you can at school, I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship; I can only praise how quickly it’s enabled me to evolve as a person and in my career.
