With increasing demand for skilled support staff in schools and colleges across the UK, the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges is a nationally recognised qualification designed for those looking to start a career in education.

The course prepares you for a variety of roles, including teaching assistant, classroom or learning support assistant, administrative support, technical roles, and volunteering positions, as well as roles working directly with children and young people.

A sector-based work academy programme (SWAP) is ideal for jobseekers who wish to gain the knowledge and confidence to fast-track their careers in a school or college environment.

What you’ll learn 

You’ll develop the essential knowledge and practical understanding needed to effectively support teaching and learning in the classroom. Topics include child and young person development, safeguarding and wellbeing, equality and inclusion, and effective communication within an educational setting.

You’ll also explore professional practice, teamwork in schools and colleges, and gain a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of staff who support children and young people. This qualification provides a strong foundation for progressing into employment within the education sector.

You’ll gain 

 On successful completion, you will achieve the NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools & Colleges. You will also meet with a local employer, giving you the opportunity to secure a guaranteed interview.

  • Your tutor will be able to advise on any further training opportunities. Once employed, you could progress on to our Level 3 Teaching Assistant course.
