Take your make-up skills to the next level and specialise in the creative world of hair and media make-up. This course is perfect if you’ve completed a Level 2 qualification and want to master more advanced techniques. You can explore everything from high-definition airbrush make-up to historical hair design, whilst learning the core theories and anatomy and physiology to prepare for an exciting career in TV, film, theatre, or the fashion industry.
What you’ll learn
Develop your creativity with a huge range of specialist units, and back up your practical skills by studying hair and media make-up theory, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care.
Practicing on your peers and working with clients, you’ll develop skills in consultation and customer service and build a professional portfolio. You’ll learn current trends and techniques to ensure you are equipped with the skills that the industry needs, using a variety of professional makeup brands.

- Media make-up creative hair design

- Cutting and styling hair for performers

- Working in film, TV and theatre

- Look books and industry portfolios
You’ll also participate in demonstrations with professional MUAs, exciting trips, and external events. With support from our expert Make Up lecturers, you’ll complete the course with the confidence and expertise needed to excel in professional work environments.

Assessment
You’ll be assessed through a combination of continual class assessment, classwork and homework tasks, and end of year exams.
Anything else?
You’ll be expected to source your own models for mock assessments and final exams to encourage working on lots of different faces in readiness for industry.
You'll be required to wear a Make-up Artists uniform whilst in the workshops, which reflects the current requirements for industry.

At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
You’ll also develop additional employability and work-based skills through our Which Three Skills programme, and benefit from a weekly pastoral session with a student mentor for any additional support.
