Are you passionate about a career in fashion? This course is your perfect starting point. You’ll gain a strong foundation in fashion, textiles, and design while getting hands-on experience across a variety of creative techniques. From concept to creation, you’ll explore every stage of the fashion process and develop the essential textile skills needed to bring your design ideas to life.
What you’ll learn
Through a combination of practical workshops and studio-based sessions, you’ll experiment with a range of materials and techniques. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore textiles and surface design, fashion design, and illustration, to begin to develop your sewing skills.
You will learn to work through the design development process, building research skills, generating ideas, experimenting with media and fabrics, to produce creative outcomes. Guided by expert lecturers with real industry experience, you’ll refine your creative identity while developing the professional skills needed to succeed in today’s fashion industry.
This one-year course will ensure you’ve got the skills and support needed to progress on to the extended diploma in fashion and textiles.

Assessment
There are no exams on this course and assessment is through the undertaking of practical project-based briefs, where you will be given feedback and guidance to improve. The qualification is awarded through BTEC / Pearson and is a level 2 qualification.
Anything else?
There is an events fee charged at the outset of the course. This covers the end-of-year show, two mandatory trips, and the cost of visiting guest lecturers and workshops. You’ll normally spend 4 days a week in college, and benefit from a weekly pastoral session with a student mentor for any additional support.
At Gloucestershire College, we want to help support students develop their English and Maths skills, enabling them to achieve their learning goals and future career aspirations. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above in English Language or Maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
You’ll also develop additional employability and work-based skills through our Which Three Skills programme.
