Harbour House
Harbour House is our post-16 provision in Gloucester, dedicated to supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).
Harbour House features a unique sensory room, as well as social and creative spaces that include whiteboard tables, an interactive floor projector, and tablet computer screens to enable creative teaching. The journey for each student can be very different, with an individualised curriculum led by highly trained and passionate staff. They work closely with young people, developing independent living skills, community engagement, cookery for independence, and the development of maths and English for daily life.
It is a safe, specialist facility, thoughtfully designed to support students with a collaborative approach to education, meeting their educational and therapeutic needs.
This provision promises to be a great asset for local students who will now be able to access all of the support they need close to home, rather than travelling long distances. This is a key focus for Harbour House, as staff ultimately aim to help students become as independent as possible as they transition from education into the local community.
Core Curriculum
The Harbour House team works with young people and their families to support the transition into adulthood. Our college-to-community lead supports transition by hosting Next Steps events, enabling young people to explore life beyond college with our community partners, including independent companies, adult care services, volunteering opportunities, and external support agencies.
Our 2 x one-week community experience opportunities allow student to trial some of the wider community group and, where appropriate, expanding their opportunities through group/individual volunteering opportunities.
The student’s voice is at the heart of our provision, and therefore our transition planning is bespoke to individual students and their families. We incorporate the Preparing for Adulthood tools into our planning and delivery of curriculum to aid increased independence.
