Meet GC's Employer Training & Apprenticeships Team - Ellie Jevons, Senior Business and Apprenticeship Sales Executive
GC’s Employer Training & Apprenticeships Team is at the heart of our employer business, committed to developing and nurturing home-grown talent and training people up with skills, right from the start of their careers - thus helping mould them to the high standard and quality our employer-partners expect. The team actively works with over 1000 employers to upskill and develop their workforces, in particular focusing on building the skills of tomorrow and ensuring apprenticeships are relevant, responsive and enable apprentices to make a significant contribution to the success of their business; while supporting the apprentices every step of the way.
Ellie Jevons has been with GC for 4 years, working within the Employer Training & Apprenticeships department, mainly looking after employer-partners in the Construction & Building Services, Accounting, and Marketing sectors. We caught up with her to learn more on her role and working with apprenticeships and employers.
How did you get into further education?
“I started in FE as a Recruitment Coordinator, bringing recruitment methodologies and structure to the Employer Training & Apprenticeship department whilst providing information, advice and guidance to our apprenticeship applicants.”
What do you enjoy most about your role?
“The variety and the people. I get to work with some amazing businesses and wonderful colleagues. In any typical day I could be in the office, on a construction site, a coffee shop, working from home, in one of our workshops… the list could go on and on. There is always something to learn in FE which keeps me on my feet!”
What skills do apprenticeships/employer training bring to our learners and employers?
“The apprenticeship programmes fully support the skills, knowledge and behaviours of every apprentice, ensuring they are not only knowledgeable but are professional and skilled in their chosen occupation on completion their apprenticeship. It’s not just about the theory as they get a lot of practice in their everyday duties that builds confidence over time and allows them to become a valuable member of the employer’s team.”
What is a common misconception that employers have around apprenticeships?
“There is usually some new misconception to unpick in most conversations but the most common centre around the cost and commitment of an apprentice. Most businesses are pleasantly surprised when I tell them of the Government funding!
What advice would you give to employers considering an apprenticeship?
“The first thing is to have a chat with us; we can give you all the details so you can make an informed decision as to whether an apprentice is what you are looking for. The next step is to act quickly so you do not miss cohorts or talented learners. We also encourage you to stay in touch, we like hearing from you about how you’re getting on.”
