Fast track your career at Apprenticeship Open Evening

Following the huge success of last year’s event, when over 1,000 people attended, Gloucestershire College is inviting local people to its Gloucester Campus on Wednesday 28 March, 5.30pm to 8.00pm, to learn about apprenticeships and meet the employers looking to recruit.
Guests at the Apprenticeship Open Evening will get the chance to explore the different types of apprenticeships available through the College, right up to degree level. They’ll also have the opportunity to visit five industry zones, where they can speak directly to the Gloucestershire businesses recruiting apprentices in the coming year and find out about the roles on offer. Prospective apprentices can even apply for live vacancies on the night.
The apprenticeship zones are:
- Construction
- Engineering
- Health, Social Care and Early Years
- Catering and Hospitality
- Professional Services and Creative Industries
Around 35 Gloucestershire businesses will be represented at each of the zones, including engineering firms Complete Utilities, GTEM, Moog, Poeton, Adnet Precision Engineering, Solum SW and Group HES; hospitality venues Cheltenham Chase Hotel and Corse Lawn House Hotel; professional services and creative brands Superdry, Charlton Networks, Severn Vale Housing and Betaris; construction companies Shackleton and Wintle, Amey and Tithegrove; and health, care and early years businesses Care Mark, Rowanfield Infant and Junior Schools, Carbrey Group and Proud to Care Gloucestershire.
The GC Apprenticeships Team will be on-hand on the night to explain the different levels of apprenticeships and qualifications you can achieve as an apprentice. They can also offer insight into entry requirements, typical wages and the career paths an apprenticeship can lead to.
Current apprentices will be sharing their experiences in their current roles and answering questions about life as an apprentice too.
Julie Tegg, Director of Employer Training, said: “Last year’s event was a real success and hive of activity, with over 500 potential apprentices and their families coming along to discover the wealth of opportunities available across the county.
“We were delighted to receive national recognition for our apprenticeships programme by winning the 2017 Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award for the Promotion and Delivery of Successful Apprenticeships. Not forgetting the fact that we’ve celebrated an overall apprenticeship success rate of 84% last year, which is well above the national average of 67% (in 2015/16).
“This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than before, with a huge variety of employers looking to hire apprentices, so we’re encouraging people to secure their place on the night early and take advantage of the opportunity to talk face-to-face with employers, find out what they are looking for and apply for an apprenticeship with them on the night.”
The Apprenticeship Open Evening is free to anyone considering doing an apprenticeship and parents are also welcome to attend. Book your place at www.gcapprenticeshipeve.co.uk
