Dental Nursing Apprenticeships Filling the Skills Gap
Gloucestershire College is offering an advanced apprenticeship in Dental Nursing (Level 3) to support Dental Practices in Gloucestershire with filling a skills gap by taking on an apprentice or upskilling existing staff.
The dental industry has rapidly expanded in the last few years. Cosmetic dentistry is booming and as scientists continue to develop new techniques and technologies, the industry is set to evolve for many years to come. Due to a growing population, by 2025 dental nurses will be required to carry out 25 per cent of all direct patient care in addition to their role of supporting dentists. As a result, a significant number of additional Dental Nurses are required to support growth in the sector.
Our apprenticeship programme is designed to meet the industry’s demand and train confident, competent Dental Nurses. Developing the skills and knowledge of your staff is vital to overcome the challenges your practice faces, whilst continuing to thrive in a rapidly evolving sector. The exciting new standard available with GC includes classroom participation in a structured learning environment, so learners profit from access to additional resources and peer group learning as well as practical learning in the workplace.
College delivery takes place one evening every three weeks, to allow the apprentice more time in the surgery working in the dental environment. This apprenticeship also provides the opportunity for the apprentice to complete an end point assessment to aim for distinction level, therefore securing a higher level of apprenticeship.
As the dental sector continues to grow, we are fully committed to addressing the skills shortage with our advanced Dental Nursing Apprenticeship. Our programme will support students in taking their first steps into the industry, acquire all the necessary skills for becoming a Dental Nurse, and achieve the qualified standard required by the General Dental Council (GDC).
How will an apprentice benefit my practice?
Our apprenticeship programme benefits not only the student, but the practice itself with a fresh new perspective and increased employee loyalty.
A recent report by the Institute for Apprenticeships found that apprenticeships help to close the skills gap and deliver a skilled workforce, with 87% of employers (nationally) satisfied with their apprentices’ training and 75% noting an improved product or service as a result of training.
