Uncovering hidden histories in the GC House
We are now in the second term of college and things are moving swimmingly. Students have steamed off the wallpaper in all of the bedrooms, and knocked off the plaster in the kitchen so it can be taken down during the next month.
While knocking off the plaster, we were surprised to find lots of old ripped-up newspaper between the bricks - some even dating back to 1962 - and enjoyed reading about the history of the area!
Upstairs, in the master bedroom, the old lathe and plaster ceiling has come down and been replaced with a brand new plasterboard ceiling by our student. A platform supplied by Severnside Scaffolding has been a great help in redoing the ceiling, as have the materials provided by our friends at Buildit. The ceiling will be ready soon for skimming and to reinstall the Victorian style ceiling rose.
The students are doing a great job so far, with the next big task being to take down the wall in the kitchen and getting the first fix electrical work started.
