Plan your future this January with a GC Open Evening
Gloucestershire College is inviting young people and their parents along to its three campuses this month, to see why its extensive facilities and experienced staff have been rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted.
- Gloucester Campus – Monday 23 January, 5.30 to 8.00pm
- Forest of Dean Campus – Wednesday 25 January, 5.30 to 7.30pm
- Cheltenham Campus – Monday 30 January, 5.30 to 8.00pm
From fully equipped construction centres to music and TV studios, working beauty salons and restaurants, the learning environment at the College is not your average classroom. The three Open Evenings will give young people the chance to explore the modern facilities at each campus, including the newly opened Graduations at Cheltenham Spa hair and beauty training salon and NumberONE commercial training restaurant.
The evenings will give prospective students the opportunity to meet GC lecturers and students from all course areas, who will be answering questions about college life, as well as showcasing their work and running ‘have a go’ activities.
At Gloucester Campus, guests can take a tour of the recently updated engineering laboratories and new higher education common room. They can also watch performances from students on music courses and talk to sports students, who will be carrying out practical kit demonstrations in the on-site gym. The campus boasts a health and social care ward, design, dance and film studios, sixth form classrooms, libraries, social spaces and iMac suites, which will all be buzzing with activity.
Those visiting Cheltenham Campus will be able to have a go at mixing their own mocktails with catering and hospitality students, and there will be napkin folding and food tasting demonstrations in the Beechwood Restaurant at the Forest Campus.
The three campuses will host dedicated Higher Education and Apprenticeship Zones, and the GC Student Services and Advice Teams will be on-hand to help explain everything from qualification types to support and finance.
Principal Matthew Burgess, who will be speaking at the evenings said: “This is a crucial time for students in Year 11 who are faced with the important decision of what to go on and study after their GCSEs in order to achieve their career goals. Year 10s will also be starting to think about their options for next year, which include sixth form, apprenticeships and further education courses – all of which we offer at Gloucestershire College.
“Our January Open Evenings not only provide the opportunity to explore and try out our impressive facilities, but also give prospective students and their parents the chance to talk to current GC students for their perspective of life at GC.
“Our dedicated lecturers, advice and student support teams will be able to provide advice and guidance to young people, to get them on the right path towards achieving their career aspirations.
“Whatever your future goal is, Gloucestershire College has a course for everyone and is a place to learn, develop and flourish. We look forward to welcoming prospective students to our Cheltenham, Gloucester and Forest of Dean campuses this January.”
