From state of the art construction centres to working beauty salons and restaurants, the learning environment at Gloucestershire College is not your average classroom, and GC is inviting young people and their parents in to see for themselves at its Open Evenings this November.

  • Gloucester Campus – Monday 7 November, 5.30 to 8.00pm
  • Forest of Dean Campus – Wednesday 9 November, 5.30 to 7.30pm
  • Cheltenham Campus – Monday 14 November, 5.30 to 8.00pm

The three Open Evenings will give young people the chance to explore the extensive facilities at each campus, including the brand new Graduations at CheltenhamSpa hair and beauty training salon, as well as the new engineering laboratories and higher education common room at Gloucester Campus. These additions join the GC’s existing modern facilities, which include a health and social care ward, design, dance and film studios, sixth form classrooms, libraries, social spaces and iMac suites.

The evenings will give prospective students the opportunity to meet GC lecturers and students from all course areas, who will be answering questions about college life, as well as showcasing their work and running ‘have a go’ activities. These tasters will include construction workshops, sports kit demos, early years play activities, competitions and quizzes.

Those visiting Cheltenham Campus will be able to have a go at mixing their own mocktails in the newly opened commercial training bistro, Restaurant Number One. At Gloucester Campus, the Sports Academy will be playing matches in the sports hall, and the health and social care training ward will be fully operational. Visitors to the Forest of Dean Campus can watch live science experiments and hear what former GC sixth formers are doing now.

The evenings will feature dedicated Higher Education and Apprenticeship Zones, and the GC Student Services and Advice Teams will be on-hand to help explain everything from qualification types to support and finance. Members of the Students’ Union will also be telling people about the range of sports teams and social programmes GC students can get involved with, to boost their CV whilst having fun.

Principal Matthew Burgess, who will be speaking at the evenings said: “Students in Years 10 and 11 will be starting to think about what they want to go on and study after their GCSEs in order to achieve their career goals, and there is an exciting range of options available, including sixth form, apprenticeships and further education courses – all of which we offer at Gloucestershire College.

“Our November Open Evenings not only provide the opportunity to explore and try out our impressive facilities, but also give prospective students and their parents the chance to talk to current GC students for their perspective of life at GC.

“Our dedicated lecturers, advice and student support teams will be able to provide advice and guidance to young people, to get them on the right path towards achieving their career aspirations.

“Whatever your future goal is, Gloucestershire College has a course for everyone and is a place to learn, develop and flourish. We look forward to welcoming prospective students to our Cheltenham, Gloucester and Forest of Dean campuses this November.”
