GC House Blog 10. Finishing touches and a tonne of gravel
August has been an exciting month at the GC House and we’re now on the home straight of the project, with only the final finishing touches to complete.
Over the last few weeks we’ve erected a fence around the back garden, fitted and painted the skirting boards in all of the rooms, completed the tiling in both the kitchen and bathroom, and painted the external walls of the extension.
A tonne of gravel has arrived to be laid in the garden over the next few days, and we will be assembling the shower enclosure and making final touches to the paintwork and decoration of the house.
The completion of the project is finally around the corner and we should be finished by next Friday, with the final step being the carpet, which is being fitted next Thursday. Once this is laid, the house will be ready to go on the market. We won’t be resting on our laurels though, with the purchase of the next GC house nearing completion, ready for our construction students to work on over the next academic year.
All of the progress made this summer would not have been achieved without the hard work of two of our recently graduated students, who worked full-time on the project. Both have found their work on the house extremely valuable and despite the usual on-site frustrations, have really seen the benefit of being involved in this type of student project.
