GC House Blog 9. TES magazine, hot weather and china mugs!

28 July 2016

The last month has seen lots of activity in the house! Although students have finished their courses and are now enjoying their summer breaks, two students have stayed hard at work in Tredworth, with more to join them soon.

The upstairs rear bedroom has been painted, with only the skirting board, dado rail and doors still to be replaced, along with some finishing touches. Downstairs, plastering is progressing well and should be finished by the end of the week! The upstairs front room is ready to be decorated and the kitchen is going in as we speak, as is the new shower cubicle.

Due to some unforeseen hold ups, the garden is still in desperately in need of some TLC. But we are on our way to dealing with this, and should have the access and materials sorted to replace the fencing and lay some turf in the next 10 days.

Meanwhile, we have been visited by two VIP’s! Sarah Simons from TES magazine (Times Educational Supplement) popped in to interview us for a feature they are running on the project. We were also joined by Joby, who is a student at Pittville School and wants to become an electrician.

Joby masked up and ready to go!

Joby spent a week with us on work experience and this is what he had to say:  “I've really enjoyed the time I've spent working at the GC House. I've had site experience before working with my dad, but this has reiterated my desire to work in the construction industry.

"I'm aiming to complete my final year at School and then enrol onto an electrical course at GC. I'm really looking forward to the mix of classroom based work with the chance to work on site and gain more experience as part of my course."

For the three of us currently working in Tredworth, the warm weather has been challenging with it being difficult to cool down. But we’re been cheered up by the prospect of being able to make our morning coffee in the kitchen. So much so that we’ve treated ourselves to some china mugs this week, instead of polystyrene!

We’re delighted to announce that the purchase of our next house project is going through the solicitors at present. However we're also still on the lookout for another project, with more information to follow in our next blog.
