GROWS partnership to encourage higher aspirations
Gloucestershire College has teamed up with the University of Gloucestershire, the Royal Agricultural University, Hartpury College and South Goucestershire and Stroud College to form the GROWS partnership, one of 38 National Networks for Collaborative Outreach which aims to encourage more young people into higher education and ensure that they have the opportunity to learn about the different HE pathways available.
To achieve this, free support and training to teachers and advisors across Gloucestershire is offered by the network, as well as a wide range of outreach activities such as assemblies, options events, college and university insight days and much more.
In addition to the website (www.grows.ac.uk), an engineering higher apprenticeships video focusing on Gloucestershire College’s higher apprentices working for GE Aviation Cheltenham has been created, which gives a real insight into life as a GC higher apprentice.
A number of additional resources are planned, including creating digital resource packs for schools, infographics for HE progressions pathways, parental engagement activity, case studies, a CPD conference and more.
The main aims of the partnership are to:
- Enhance the provision of information and advice, raising awareness of the benefits of HE and supporting informed choices.
- Improve coverage, quality and coherence of widening participation outreach in local schools.
- Increase awareness of local HE provision, including alternative pathways and the specialisms of each institution.
- Share best practice across the network and professional development opportunities.
