The Gloucestershire College Business Hub is inviting county businesses, both big and small, to join it for a breakfast seminar about the planned apprenticeship reforms, and what these mean to them, at Cheltenham Campus on Wednesday 9 March.

In the Autumn Statement the government announced a new apprenticeships levy of 0.5% on company payrolls, effective from April 2017, to raise £3bn a year and fund three million apprenticeships. Only businesses with a wage bill of more than £3m will pay the levy, however all businesses, large and small, will be able to apply for funding to spend on apprenticeship training once it is up and running.

Experts from the GC Business Hub will open the seminar with a talk explaining the process of hiring an apprentice with the College; covering the frameworks it offers, businesses it works with and how it will support employers throughout the reforms.

This will be followed by a talk from the Skills Funding Agency about what the apprenticeship reforms will mean for businesses, and a Q&A session led by Vice Principal Peter White, the GC Business Hub and the SFA, which will offer an insight into the experiences of other local businesses who have employed apprentices.

Peter White, Vice Principal, said: “We work closely with hundreds of local employers to help train and recruit their apprentices, so we want to share the facts with them, as well as those we do not yet work with, and inform them about how the reforms and levy will affect them. The government wants to put employers at the heart of apprenticeships and the levy is part of this journey – we want to make that journey as straightforward as possible for our partners.”

All Gloucestershire employers are welcome at the event, but it will be particularly useful for business owners and training managers who are interested in learning more about hiring apprentices, as well as those who currently hire apprentices and want to learn more about the planned reforms.

The free seminar, taking place from 8am to 9.45am, will include breakfast and the opportunity to network with other local businesses. To book your place visit, or call the GC Business Hub on 01452 563403 for more information.
