NOUVEAU! NUEVO! New for September 2015 – French and Spanish A Levels
Gloucestershire College is thrilled to be offering French and Spanish at A Level from September, giving Sixth Form students at both its Cheltenham and Forest of Dean campuses the opportunity to not only develop their confidence and communication skills, but also their future career prospects.
Both French and Spanish will be available to study at Cheltenham Sixth Form, while French will be on offer at the Forest of Dean Sixth Form.
A Level language students will be taught through a blend of classroom-based study and conversation classes to actively develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
During the first year of study, modules will include media, popular culture, healthy living and family and relationships, while the second year will cover the environment, multicultural society, contemporary and social issues, and a cultural topic.
The degree of linguistics competence and fluency attained by the end of the two-year A Level courses will provide a solid foundation for further study at degree level.
To study either language at A Level, students will need to have achieved a GCSE grade C or above in the respective language, in addition to general entry requirements found on the College website.
Modern Languages Lecturer, Alberto Leva, said: “Learning French and Spanish at A Level allows you to explore two of the oldest and most central cultures in Europe and open your mind to a worldwide perspective.
“Speakers of multiple languages often have an advantage when it comes to working with larger companies and organisations, and as we live in a multilingual society, languages can be used not only at work, but also on holiday or in day-to-day life.
“A language is also a prerequisite for lots of university courses, so studying one at A Level is worth considering if you are thinking about going on to higher education.”
