Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light vehicle) Apprenticeship

Level 3

Course Overview

Part Time
Certificate

Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technicians service and repair light vehicles such as cars and vans and work either in dealerships which focus on a particular manufacturer, or in an independent garage which deals with many different makes of vehicles. They work on all the systems found within the vehicle. The nature of the work ranges from replacing simple parts, through to solving complex faults with the use of diagnostic methods and equipment. Student Stories

Jess Hands

There are two incredible, spacious, full-equipped workshops to simulate a real working environment. I bought a 1989 Volkswagen Mk2 Polo Breadvan for a project and I am currently stripping and rebuilding the engine and the body work to become a show car. We receive great support from both our lecturers and learning mentors. My dream is to become a mechanic in F1 and be part of their pit crew!”

Joe Mower

“I applied to GC to study Motor Vehicle to learn about cars and how to fix or diagnose problems with them, as it’s something I find interesting. I enjoy the help I get in lessons and being allowed to use the computers freely to do my work. Hopefully, after my course I will be able to do an apprenticeship at Toyota or Ford with the skills I have learnt. I would recommend anyone to apply to GC”

Marcus Iles

Mechanics is a thing I’ve always liked, and I’ve fixed up cars and bikes before coming to college too. I’ve enjoyed meeting new people and the lecturers are always a laugh. The extra support I get is really good too. My dream career is to be a mechanic, and the course has helped me be really ready for that. I’d like to go into race mechanics after college and the skills I’ve learnt on my course mean that I feel confident to go into the workplace afterwards to fix brakes, change motors and engines – loads!
