This course is for beginners who have used a sewing machine before, and for those who wish to return to sewing.
Maybe you have been inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee, fancy trying sewing, or did a little at school and want to get to grips with making your own clothes, this course will introduce you to the basics of using simple dressmaking.
The course will start with simple patterns using a variety of sewing skills, from there you will agree a more complicated pattern to make and learn how to fit it. The course will build your confidence on the sewing machines and understanding commercial patterns.
During the course you will make a simple top from a commercial pattern before trying out your new skills on a more complicated pattern where you will learn to of the basics of pattern alteration and fitting. Some skills will depend on the pattern you choose.
Each week you will need to bring a basic sewing kit
This will need to include
· Sharp scissors for fabric
· Small pair of scissors for paper
· Pins and pin cushion
· Hand sewing needles
· Sewing cotton
· Tape measure
Each week you will be advised of what materials you will need.
