Early Years Studies Foundation Degree

Students

Ideal if:  you already have an Early Years qualification at Level 3 and want to increase your knowledge.

You'll learn: a variety of mandatory units including emerging developmental theory and research and leading and managing in the Early Years sector.

Expect to: develop your ability as a reflective practitioner, by exploring links between theoretical perspectives and current practice and learn how to think critically about current policy.

You'll love: still having the opportunity to work while putting what you learn into practice.

It is an ideal course for students who have a classroom assistant qualification who now want to learn more about children and their families.  Students need to demonstrate they have previous experience with working with children before embarking on this Level 4 Foundation Degree.

The course, which is validated by the University of Gloucestershire, takes place over two evenings a week and one of these evenings is delivered electronically through web based activities and webinars. In addition, there are also three innovative learning weekends.

If you’re not quite sure whether you can afford the time or the money to go onto a full degree course at a University, but still want to work towards that goal, then a Foundation Degree is the option for you. By enrolling onto a Foundation Degree you will be able to develop your academic skills and apply this knowledge and understanding in this important ever changing and developing work sector.  

All entrants must be employed (or undertaking substantial voluntary work) in the sector for the duration of the course.

EYF407 Moving to Outstanding.

Year 2

EYF501 Professionalism in the Early Years

EYF502 Emerging developmental theory and research

EYF503 Planning and Assessing children’s learning

EYF504 Perspectives in play

EYF505 Partnership with parents

EYF506 Leading and managing in the Early Years sector

EYF507 Developing a Forest school

EYF508 Child initiated learning within the community.
