This course will give you a comprehensive introduction into the graphic design industry.
Level 3 graphics is a dynamic and exciting course. The equivalent to 3 A-levels, students will be expected to work hard to a high standard in their chosen specialism of graphic design. The course looks at the varied areas of design communication from typography and Illustration, Digital Manipulation and visual recording, Marketing and Branding, Web Design and Desktop Publishing. All Level 3 students have the opportunity to undertake a range of live projects in graphics design that in the past have been set by Gloucestershire Police, Gloucester City Council, Gloucestershire College as well as a range of logos, leaflets and branding briefs set by local and national businesses. The course looks at design theory and application as well as having strong digital roots, using Adobe creative suite to give learners a realistic studio experience.
Learners will develop a range of traditional design and study skills by looking at visual recording and how this can be used in modern design, learners will engage in researching and documenting historical and contextual practice and evaluating how this impacts on their own design work. There is a strong emphasis on digital design skills, technical workshops and masterclasses as well as self-directed study to form the basis of the learners future professional design skillset. There is the opportunity go on college led residential trip abroad and a range of subject related field trips take place throughout the year and form a vital part of learning outside the classroom. Learners are expected to participate fully in all areas of the discipline from initial briefings and class discussions to presenting their work and workshops. Level 3 Graphic Design is a creative course where learners are expected to have good communication skills and a competent level of IT. The course is 2 years of full time study and offers successful learners the chance to progress on to our level 5 Graphic Design course at the college where they can further develop their design, communication and employability skills.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.
