Gloucestershire College has teamed up with some of the most innovative brands in the Cotswolds to create an exclusive opportunity for those aiming for a career in the catering and hospitality industry.

Cotswold Star Academy

The Cotswold Star Academy offers 10 passionate young people the chance to kick-start their career as a Hospitality Supervisor or Chef de Partie. Those selected for the 12-month training programme will be employed by one of these luxury brands:

The Calcot Collection, Farncombe Estate, Ellenborough Park and The Lucky Onion Group.

Learn from the Best

The programme will enable each ‘star’ to kick-start their career in their chosen pathway, as they gain qualifications, experience and skills whilst working at a renowned establishment and earning a decent wage. The Academy will include an element of off-the-job training that will be undertaken through online learning, work shadowing, masterclasses and seminars at each venue, as well as with The Chefs’ Forum.

Students will also take part in enrichment sessions, including a residential trip, foodie visits and a welcome supper hosted by the employers at the start of the programme.

Chef de Partie

This pathway could see you undertaking a range of activities which could include cooking, preparing and finishing meals, monitoring quality, stock management, food safety and menu development.

Hospitality Supervisor

This pathway will allow you to gain the skills and techniques required to supervise a team, manage hospitality events and deliver a high level of service to guests and customers.

Skills and attributes you need for both pathways:

  • Ability to organise and lead staff
  • Well-presented and polite
  • Motivated to succeed within the hospitality industry
  • Willing to learn and apply that learning in the workplace
  • Willing to work as part of a team and lead a team

The hospitality industry plays a very important part in the economy of Gloucestershire and evidence suggests that employment in this sector will continue to rise.
