Learn from the Best
The programme will enable each ‘star’ to kick-start their career in their chosen pathway, as they gain qualifications, experience and skills whilst working at a renowned establishment and earning a decent wage. The Academy will include an element of off-the-job training that will be undertaken through online learning, work shadowing, masterclasses and seminars at each venue, as well as with The Chefs’ Forum.
Students will also take part in enrichment sessions, including a residential trip, foodie visits and a welcome supper hosted by the employers at the start of the programme.
Chef de Partie
This pathway could see you undertaking a range of activities which could include cooking, preparing and finishing meals, monitoring quality, stock management, food safety and menu development.
This pathway will allow you to gain the skills and techniques required to supervise a team, manage hospitality events and deliver a high level of service to guests and customers.
Skills and attributes you need for both pathways:
- Ability to organise and lead staff
- Well-presented and polite
- Motivated to succeed within the hospitality industry
- Willing to learn and apply that learning in the workplace
- Willing to work as part of a team and lead a team
How will it work?

Applicants will be shortlisted and invited to the college for an Assessment Day where you will meet the employers and take part in a range of activities to check your suitability.
If successful, you will be employed full time by one of the organisations and attend regular training and master classes at the different venues with the most skilled staff in the area.
How do I know if I am eligible?
The employers are looking for applicants with the following:
- C Grades in English and maths
- Personal qualities with a passion to succeed, a willingness to learn and fast track your career
- Good communicator
Is there an age limit?
No, this is open to anyone. Maybe you would like a career change, or you have recently graduated from Uni with less job opportunities in your degree subject? Or you currently work in hospitality but would like to take on more of a challenge.
Can I apply for a certain location?
Yes, we understand that some organisations will be nearer to where you live or they may be more the type of establishment you wish to work in, so you will be able to state your preference. You also will need to ensure you can get to and from work.
The hospitality industry plays a very important part in the economy of Gloucestershire and evidence suggests that employment in this sector will continue to rise. By launching this very important initiative, the College will be playing its part to increase the visibility of careers in this exciting industry.
