Equality and Diversity
GC is open to people of any nationality, gender, sexual orientation or disability so it’s important our staff know how to be a positive part of this ethos.
We support our staff to undertake Equality and Diversity training at level 2, and support management to undertake a qualification at Level 3 in Managing Diversity.
All staff must achieve the mandatory E&D and Safeguarding online modules within their first 6 months of employment.
We frequently run courses such as assertiveness training, IT, customer service and health and safety. For lecturers there are further courses such as lesson planning and workshop delivery.
New managers get a special induction and are assigned a mentor to help them fit in. Further training specifically for managers is provided regularly.
For staff who want to become managers there is also the Aspire to Management programme which will give them the knowledge and skills they need to lead.
We actively promote mentoring which is available to all staff.
Many staff members choose to gain qualifications such as Apprenticeships (within the College) or Higher Education courses, with us or one of our partner universities. We support up to 50% of staff course fees.
All Lecturers are supported to achieve their PTLLS, DTLLS or PGCE qualification, which are all delivered internally.
Every year we celebrate our wonderful staff members with an awards ceremony. Categories include ‘Outstanding Newcomer’, ‘Star Team’, and ‘Outstanding Service to the College Community and Partnership’.
