Student Development

At Gloucestershire College we are committed to preparing you for your next step, whether that be employment, further study, higher education or an apprenticeship. Your ambition is our ambition and we make it our mission to help you get there!

You will take part in work experience as part of your programme of study. GC is committed to working with employers to ensure you have as much experience as possible during your time with us. We know this makes a real difference to the students that local employers are recruiting and to your potential success as an Apprentice or a future student.

At GC you will have the opportunity to personalise your study programme by choosing the best development for YOU.

Through one of more of the following:

  • Additional work experience
  • Volunteering
  • Sports and activities
  • Training and development
  • Application for HE, Apprenticeships and further study

Your Learning Mentor will discuss with you what will suit your needs and ambitions, there is plenty of support to ensure your development is maximised.

Learning Mentors

Learning Mentors are here to support you throughout your journey at GC. They will support you to be safe, successful and stay on track. They support students alongside academic tutors to make sure you have everything you need to learn successfully. They can make links with staff across the college including the Learning Support team, Employment coaches and Safeguarding team.

Professional Development

At Level 1 and 2, your professional development sessions will ensure you have the skills and knowledge to start working independently out in business, whilst providing you the opportunity to work with employers. You will cover key topics in health and safety, safeguarding, building confidence and resilience and learning about your rights and responsibilities as an employee.

Employment Support

We have a dedicated team on each site supporting you in gaining meaningful external experiences and advertising opportunities for part-time work and volunteering. They are here to help you explore new work-placement ideas and meet what is required of you on your course.

Student Union

The Students’ Union (SU) has two main functions. One is to support students to address their concerns. The other is to support Student Development by encouraging you to arrange events, sports, fundraise and volunteer. They are here to make sure students have a good time and get the chance to lead fulfilling lives.

You can also find out more by visiting the sections on NCS, Sports Academies and speaking to your Learning Mentor.
