The number of days your child will spend in college during their course will vary according to which subject area they have decided to study.
Generally our full-time courses require students to be in college between three and five days a week and your child may be required to attend a day in a placement as part of this. To find out more specific details of your child’s number of days please talk to Student Services.
Student development programme
At Gloucestershire College we are committed to preparing your child for their next step, whether that be employment, further study, higher education or an apprenticeship.
Your child’s ambition is our ambition and we make it our mission to help them get there!
GC is committed to working with employers to ensure your child has as much experience as possible during their time with us.
We know this makes a real difference to the students that local employers are recruiting and to your child’s potential success as an apprentice or a future student.
At GC your child will have the opportunity to personalise their study programme by choosing the best development for their needs through one or more of the following:
- Additional work experience
- Sports and activities
- Training and development
- Application for HE, Apprenticeships and further study
Your child’s Learning Mentor will discuss with them what will suit their needs and ambitions, there is plenty of support to ensure their development is maximised.
Learning Mentors are here to support your child throughout their journey at GC. They will support them to be safe, successful and stay on track.
They support students alongside academic tutors to make sure they have everything they need to learn successfully. They can make links with staff across the college including the Learning Support team, Employment coaches and Safeguarding team.
At Level 1 and 2, your child’s professional development sessions will ensure they have the skills and knowledge to start working independently out in business, whilst providing them with the opportunity to work with employers. Your child will cover key topics in health and safety, safeguarding, building confidence and resilience and learning about their rights and responsibilities as an employee.
