Activities

GC Active does fun sports. We’ve had indoor football, yoga, squash, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, kickboxing and skiing – what’s next?

Check the current timetables to see what’s on. Remember, if you don’t see what you want, get in touch with Paul Hewitt, our College Sports Maker, and ask – it may be possible for us to arrange a session or add it to our timetable permanently.

Sports with a difference

Sometimes sport is more fun when you play with the rules! See our explanations of some of the more unusual sports we do.

Rush Hockey

Fancy a game of hockey without the usual commitment or rules? Rush hockey is flexible and open to mixed or single gender teams for five-a-side play.

  • You use a standard hockey stick but the balls and goals are different to the ones you’ll see at a ‘normal’ hockey match.
  • You can play indoors or outside, on almost any size pitch.
  • No need for an umpire. The teams are in charge!

Dodgeball

The students' favourite! Mixed teams can have a laugh and enjoy the action. Get into teams and come to the leisure centre to get started.

Indoor ‘Street’ Cricket

A simplified version of traditional cricket, which is normally played in the street. At GC, we use the sports hall!

Mountain Biking

Looking for an adrenalin rush? These sessions give you the chance to go out on Forest trails with a qualified instructor. Enjoy the twists, turns and jumps on the forest paths! All abilities welcome - kit and bikes provided.

No Strings Badminton

No partner? No experience? Come and play anyway! This is sociable badminton.

Rugby Football Union O2 Touch

Less dangerous than normal rugby, this game replaces tackles with touches. Simply touch your opponent’s body, clothing, or the ball, and the ‘tackle’ is made with no blood or broken bones. Very civilised!

“Smash Up” Badminton

Is normal badminton too boring for you? Why not add some thumping music, throw out the rule book, add some challenges and turn it into a social activity? That’s right – it’s smash up badminton!

Mars “Just Play” Football

If you want to play football without the weekly commitment or getting into a league then just play! All levels of fitness and experience are welcome in this casual kick-about sport.
