Gerald Hodges case study

Gerald Hodges

Name: Gerald Hodges
Location of Study: Gloucestershire College
Courses: Degree in I.C.T (FdSc) part time, 4 modules per year (3 yrs)

Why did you choose to study at Gloucestershire College Do IT centres?

The College offers courses in IT that are a natural progression from ITQ Level 3 that was achieved at a Do IT Centre.

What are you hoping to achieve from this course?

To gain the knowledge needed for many aspects of Information Technology, and Technology Systems. This will give me the tools to develop my skills in a practical environment.

What has been the highlight of studying at the college?

Bonding with new people and becoming trusted friends with them, you get a kick out of doing well in assignments and getting good grades in exams.

What made you decide to go back into education?

After the birth of my son it was decided I would remain at home and look after him full-time and mum would return to work. When he reached the age I could leave him at nursery for a few hours per week it gave me a bit of time to fill, this coincided with me finding out about the free computer courses offered by the DO IT Centres, although I had used computers a little but had very little knowledge about them and didn’t know any application properly. I enrolled at the centre with very little confidence and no expectation and found out that I actually enjoyed the study.

Would you recommend studying to anyone else?

Absolutely yes I would.

Anything else to say?

It’s not all about the study and the subjects; it’s having the ability to think at a higher level generally.
