In depth
A Level and GCSE
Our academic centre delivers our GCSE and A Level programmes, and the sixth form centre achieved a 99% pass rate and 75% grades A-C last year, and continues to grow in size and improve year on year. Learn more about our Sixth Form Centre here.
Arts, media, music and performing arts
The Gloucestershire College Arts and Media Academy is a Skillset Academy Partner, which means that our staff, courses, teaching facilities and student achievements are among the very best in the UK. In addition, both the arts and media academies are at GRADE 1 (ofsted ‘outstanding’) and learners can therefore be assured of an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding experience whilst they study with us.
Business, administration and management
The Gloucestershire College School of Business and Professional Studies has been developed to respond to the growing demands of the business industries. We develop our training programmes to cover many aspects of business knowledge, whilst allowing you to specialise in your chosen area, such as accounting, customer service, management, finance and marketing, so ensure your course is relevant to your chosen career. We are able to provide suitable training for you from Level 1 through to Level 7.
Construction and building services
The Gloucestershire College large technology block on our Gloucester campus, as well as the Cheltenham Construction School, provides an expert environment for achieving your qualification and gaining real life experience for your future career. By studying construction trades at Gloucestershire College you will benefit from our excellent links with local trade and the industry, and share in our successes in the Regional and National Skill Build competition and the City and Guilds Apprentice of the Year awards.
Counselling, advice and guidance
Gloucestershire College has courses which provide an excellent basis for those wishing to extend their current knowledge and experience of counselling before undertaking more advanced training in counselling or a related discipline.
Engineering and electronics
The Gloucestershire College engineering department is one of the largest providers of engineering training in the south west. We offer a broad range of vocational programmes designed to meet the needs of local industry through specialist training and customised facilities. With state-of-the-art Computer Aided Design (CAD) facilities, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) links, robotics equipment, and our excellent links with firms such as GE, Spirex, and Schlemburger, GC is the first choice for training in this sector.
English for non-English speakers
At the college we are able to offer English as a foreign language as an evening or full-time course. These courses are hugely successful especially for those wishing to continue in education. Find out more on this page.
Guided and supported learning
Here you can find out more about our Life Skills Course, which promotes and encourages students to develop their communication and interaction skills when out in the local community.
Hairdressing and beauty therapy
The Gloucestershire College hairdressing and beauty therapy courses are delivered at both our Cheltenham and Gloucester campuses and taught through our ‘Graduations’ salons which provide an excellent opportunity for you to gain a real perspective of the everyday running of a commercial salon and become familiar with industry-used products.
Health, care and early years
The Gloucestershire College early years courses are for individuals who are passionate about childcare. Our courses are designed to equip you with the skills to succeed as a child minder or childcare practitioner, and with our new entry level and Foundation Degree routes, there is something for everybody to develop their skills and boost their qualifications.
Higher education programmes
Gloucestershire College offers a wide and growing range of higher education opportunities, including Higher National Certificates and Diplomas (HNC/Ds), Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees. Our courses are delivered in partnership with local universities and help students study towards a HE qualification locally.
Hospitality and catering
Gloucestershire College hospitality and catering courses are taught in a commercial environment that reflects professional kitchens and restaurants. Our Renaissance Restaurant gives students the opportunity to learn the skills of the trade while serving paying customers, providing a valuable experience in preparation for employment. We have dining rooms in Cheltenham and Gloucester, and our restaurant, on-site in Cheltenham, is open to the public at lunchtimes and evenings. There is also the opportunity to take part in regional and national competitions, such as the Chef v Chef Competition.
Information technology and computing
There are many different avenues within the field of IT and computing and our courses run from the level one IT @ Work to national diplomas in forensic computing, software development, systems support, interactive games design and commercial website development.
Languages
Gloucestershire College offers students 16 different foreign languages from Arabic to Welsh, from absolute beginner to post A Level study.
Motor vehicle
Turning an interest in motor vehicles into a qualification is easy at Gloucestershire College – as part of the engineering department students can study within our state-of-the-art technology block with a brand new MOT bay and welding workshop.
Public and uniformed services
Gloucestershire College public services courses prepare students for careers in the police force, fire and rescue service, army or ambulance service through combined classroom learning and physical activities.
Recreational
Our recreational courses are perfect for people who are looking to try new things and take on fresh challenges while meeting new people and gaining some skills along the way. Gloucestershire College offers a wide range of recreational courses, which can be found in the part-time prospectus or online.
Skills for life
Our Skills For Life courses provide necessary life skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and using maths. Improving these skills can help boost confidence in daily life or work, and help prepare students for further study or training.
