Marketing Gloucester has welcomed Christian Drewitt to their team as a disability marketing assistant to give accessibility in the city a substantial boost.

Christian started working with Marketing Gloucester on his idea for an accessibility guide while studying at Gloucestershire College.

He has been making great headway in compiling the guide, and has already visited some of Gloucester's hotels and restaurants, including The New Inn, Nandos, Hatherley Manor Hotel, Hatton Court Hotel, Gloucester Quays and The Fountain Inn.

As well as at Marketing Gloucester, Christian is also basing himself at the most accessible attractions in the city, Gloucester Guildhall and Museum of Gloucester.

Christian said: "So far, I've visited many places in Gloucester from TGI Fridays in the Docks, to Cafe Rene and in the centre, to hotels on the outskirts of the city.

"I've been really impressed with the accessibility of the businesses and people can read my latest reviews at www.christiandrewitt.wordpress.com ."

Christian has a passion for Gloucester and its attractions, and as a wheelchair user, has first-hand knowledge of their disabled access.

The Disabled Living Foundation states that 19 per cent of the working population have a disability.

Marketing Gloucester CEO Jason Smith said: "Christian has been visiting hotels and restaurants in and around Gloucester and is fitting in extremely well as part of the team.

"We are proud to be part of this accessibility guide and hope Gloucester will become best practice for future towns and cities."

Gloucester City Council leader Cllr Paul James added: "We are very happy to support this initiative and extremely impressed with Christian's work ethic.

"We are fully backing the accessibility guide with Marketing Gloucester and Christian and believe it will be a great step forward towards improving accessibility in the city."
