Budding cake decorators inspired by masterclass with Ceri Griffiths
Cake decoration and patisserie students at the GC Cheltenham Campus were given the rare opportunity to work with renowned cake decorator, Ceri Griffiths this month, in a special royal icing masterclass.
The TV presenter, author, international judge and demonstrator, has 39 years of experience as a baker and confectioner. He took time out of his busy schedule of workshops and appearances at trade shows and competitions to drop into the College, so the students were understandably excited by the chance to see Ceri in action.
Level 1 Professional Cake Decoration student, Tara Kirkham Evans said:
"It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to have such a calibre of 'celebrity' and for him to take time out of his manic, transatlantic schedule to come and demonstrate to a group of students.
"We would ordinarily have to pay big money to have that kind of demonstration with someone like Ceri, and I for one was very grateful to be given the opportunity to see him in action, to pick his brains and to take in all the hints and tips and advice he gave us."
During the masterclass, Ceri demonstrated royal icing piping techniques and flower making. Tara added:
"Everyone hung on his every word and piped scroll! You could have heard a cocktail stick drop at some points when he was doing his thing. It was a fantastic evening and one I will remember for a long time."
